Australia is a magnificent country filled with beauty and people rich in culture. It is a place where our families are free from fear, where we are guaranteed basic necessities like education, health care and equality.
Now imagine a people not so different to us who should have a chance to enjoy the same freedom as us. However, this chance has been torn away by war. A war that’s appetite for destruction lasted decades and devastated the lives of millions.
This is the story of South Sudan and a people who have suffered without any lasting promise of relief until very recently, when the signing of a monumental agreement officially ended the war and inspired great hope for peace.
On the 9th of January 2005 a comprehensive peace agreement was signed between the Government of the North and, the Sudan People’s Libration Army of the South.
This agreement has led to the formation of a government in South Sudan and a sense of law and order throughout the region.
The peace is holding and now our work has begun, we have made the commitment to undertake this daunting challenge to make a difference in South Sudan’s areas of greatest need.
Together we can make a difference.
